YANGON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels and Tourism held a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday to mark World Tourism Day 2025.

The event aimed to highlight the benefits and impacts of tourism, which help preserve the environment, protect cultural heritage, support socio-economic growth, and foster international friendship, Aung Aye Han, deputy director-general of the ministry, told Xinhua.

At the event, different types of tourism, such as cultural, adventure, and sports tourism, were showcased in detail through video clips, he said.

The ministry has prioritized tourism development by participating in international travel expos, organizing familiarization trips, promoting destinations through digital platforms, enhancing service quality, developing human resources, and ensuring safe and smooth travel experiences, he said.

Over 1.2 million international tourists visit the country each year, with most arrivals coming from Thailand and China, while domestic tourism also remains strong, with more than 10 million local travelers recorded annually over the past two to three years, he added. ■
